Sumi - bespoke hand marbled wallpaper

This hand marbled wallpaper is inspired by the Japanese Art of Suminagashi, meaning ‘ink floating’.

Each piece is unique. There are no pattern repeats – Natascha creates individual panels of paintings. Inspired by the natural beauty of marble stone curation, Natascha has always been fascinated by how each piece, though entirely individual, belongs to a harmonious entity. Like members of the same geological family, these wallpaper panels sit side by side – never identical, yet deeply connected. This spirit of uniqueness within unity lies at the heart of her bespoke marbled surfaces.

The process of Suminagashi involves inks being placed on the water surface. They are only encouraged to move by air – nothing else disturbs the surface. The colours flow in an organic way, shifting gently until a dynamic composition emerges. At this moment, Natascha captures the image by laying paper on the water.

Natascha helps realise customised projects in collaboration with private & commercial clients.

Sumi has been featured in the Financial Times, Elle Decoration, House & Garden, LivingEtc, Homes & Gardens, Hole & Corner.
